Creative Personal Challenge
Tonight I got home to my apartment in Encuentro, DR feeling very inspired to create, photograph and build my photography business. Then I realized I had no direction or idea on what would be the most beneficial to me on this given day. Since I was exhausted from coaching the local kids sailing I decided to be lazy and watch YouTube. I saw a video from one of my favorite channels, Chase Jarvis. He loves to inspire creatives(it works!). The video i watched talked about how he challenges himself every day to be creative.
After noticing how lazy I was sitting on the couch at 5pm on a Saturday, I decided to challenge myself. Create images within half a mile from my front door and heres what I got. (please read more below the images(it gets a bit personal))
About half way through this exercise I realized that I truly love taking photos and I know that it will be a part of my life forever. The sad truth is that I also recognized that I don’t know if I have a signature style. I love the way my images look but I want to be able to have a fan of mine to see a photo they have never seen before and say “thats a Sammy Hodges image” and his friend will say,”you mean Samuel Hodges?” Then the first guy says,”yeah from Samuel Hodges Photography but the people that know him call him Sammy.” Then the other guy says,”oh so you know him, hu? you must think your so cool that you know The ‘Sammy Hodges’.” They go on and on bickering in my imaginary story.
Back to my point. I need to find my signature style, for my business but most of all for me. I encourage everyone reading this to follow along with me in finding myself and my authentic style. Thank you for reading and thank you even more for looking!
